Work in Schools

Here's a brief section describing some of the programmes Woking Football in the Community are currently running in local schools.

Healthy Living

The Community scheme devised a five week Healthy Lifestyle plan which has now been delivered to over 10 schools. Due to the success of this scheme and at the request of Woking Mind the community department tailored the plan so it was suitable for their clients.

The adapted plan included shopping and cooking, nutrition and fitness classes with one session being attended by 65 people. The scheme was so successful the Community Dept won a Positive Practice Award from Care Services Improvement Partnership for their work with the group.

The scheme has work experience students with them throughout September to May. Students experience assisting a lead coach during their PPA sessions and afterschool clubs. They will also assist with office work to experience the other side of running a successful community team.

Anybody wishing to come on work experience should contact the Community dept on 01483 772470 ext 221/223.

Work Experience

Reading and Writing in

Schools

Reading and Writing in Schools is a new initiative we have started over the last few years to help encourage children to read and write. A recent survey showed that less children (especialy boys) are reading books, so we took some coaches into a local school where they spoke about their favourite books and why they enjoy reading.

The reading sessions went down very well at the schools that we introduced writing aswell. We took a Woking FC first team player to a school, where the children interviewed him and then wrote up a report.

Sponsored

Penalty

Shootouts

A fund raising initiative with local schools whereby children gain sponsorship for penalties taken against either the Woking goal keeper or club mascot KC Kat.

Prizes are awarded to children raising the most money and funds split between the school and community scheme. Schools who have already taken part have raised between £350.00 and £450.00 for their school funds.
